Our first meeting was a bit of a roller coaster as the tower guard who proudly defends his post guarding the classroom keys of the university's buildings had the wrong name listed for our meeting's classroom. After several attempts to put to use introductory German, I failed to convince the tower guard to give me the key to our meeting room. In a rushed move, I went to check on SR Room 90 to see if anyone was waiting and found an unlocked room but a haunted one- as only the ghosts and dust bunnies remained.
Most members had contacted Joseph ahead of time reporting their planned absence due to scheduling conflicts- so I wasn't expecting a large turnout anyway, (plus it meant I could prepare for my birthday party, so I'm not mad at it). The theme for the introductory meeting was all about inclusivity- one of the three main philosophies of the club (along with independence and community). Thee meeting's agenda began with a video on the importance of inclusivity which is provided below.
Following the video introduction, the meeting's agenda shifted to reviewing discussions had at the previous meeting last semester by the founding members Joseph, Erik, William, and Tomoya about promoting the three ideals of the Nu Beta in specific reference to providing academic support for students on campus, assisting international students in adjusting to campus life, promoting school pride, working to improve the university, and providing career support for students after graduating from the university.
The meeting's agenda then turned to forming teams based on the size of the organization. Because there are less than fifteen members as of right now, all members will be assigned to a single team under the leadership of the acting president as team captain. To review this system; if the fraternity consists of more than fifteen members, members will be assigned to teams of no more than fourteen in order to better organize membership and to allow members to more easily organize activities.
Each team gets a captain who's responsibility is in being the leader of their team. Additionally, each team gets to design their own emblem to be their banner and a team name. The founders' team will need to discuss their team name and symbol the next meeting. The meeting's conclusion turned to introducing members and finishing with a wrap-up video about the importance of embracing curiosity instead of judgement which is provided below.
