Meeting Minutes: Weekly Recap of our Weekly Meetings
Last week's meeting was all about the concept of bravery. The meeting began with a video on how we often behave when we're afraid and how our quick judgements for survival can often create false alarms- which will be provided below. Members Eric, William, and Tomoya let me know ahead of time they had scheduling conflicts and would not be able to attend the meeting. (But that's what these are for! So no sweat!)
We then transitioned into a summary of the past couple weeks events which either substituted meetings for events or simply filled extra days. This included an intercultural sports night which two of our members attended, an ice cream social we hosted for officers of AG's on campus which two of our members attended, and an international festival spotlighting international students on campus. Two of our members hosted tables representing Alaska and Taiwan and two other members came by to learn about our two tables and others as well.
The meeting then turned back to the meeting's theme on bravery by showing a video on the linguistic roots of the word "monster" preempting a conversation on how we respond to fear. The meeting then turned to defining confidence and discussing knowing when to be confident and when to be humble- as well as discussing the concept of having the courage to fail. Finally, the meeting ended with some important dates and updates on this summer and next school year.
We received the go-ahead from student government to host our planned surf camp to France, and our next meeting will be an informational meeting about the surf camp. The program will be open to any Spoho students, but our own members who wish to go will take on roles as organizers. Next year, we would like to host more events, so we will be spending the summer organizing these special events such as seminars on women's sports, sports for the disabled, and sports among marginalized groups. Feel free to let me know about any ideas you have for cool events we could do on campus. The meeting ended with a video about the Battle of the Sexes- a pivotal tennis match in the history of gender equality in sports- which we have provided below.
