N00b Weekly: 13 June 2022

Meeting Minutes: Weekly Recap of our Weekly Meetings

Our eighth meeting of the semester was all about the concept of kindness. The meeting began with a video on how showing kindness has ripple effects on how people perceive each other- which will be provided below. Members Eric, William, and Tomoya let me know ahead of time they had scheduling conflicts and would not be able to attend the meeting. (But that's what these are for! So no sweat!)

After discussing attending the last week's theme of courtesy, the meeting's agenda then turned to the roots of kindness- empathy and compassion. This included questions about when kindness can be a bad thing such as in sports when unfortunately there has to be winner and losers and an athlete's role is to win. The agenda then shifted to discussing upcoming events including a June ice cream social we could host for officers of other AG's on campus, inviting a local animal shelter to bring animals to campus during exams week in July, a summer trip I'm working on putting together, and a rough calendar for next school year.

The potential summer trip I suggested was a surf-themed trip to Hossegor, France to learn more about the sport of surfing, the impact it has on local communities, and about the World Surf League's efforts in promoting gender equity and combating climate change and ocean pollution. The schedule for next school year would include an event spotlighting Native American sports in November, an event in December spotlighting handicapped sports, and event in March spotlighting women's sports, an event in May spotlighting Asian and Pacific Islander sports, and an event in June spotlighting LGBTQ+ sports, To close the meeting out, the agenda included a video on moments of poor sportsmanship- which is provided below.
